'Snoop's New Reggae Record Still Has West Coast Elements', Says Diplo

Hip-hop hero come reggae renegade Snoop Dogg/Lion has been receiving support from all across the globe recently, after revealing that he’d been re-born as a Rastafari after a recent trip to Jamaica to work on his album. The latest comments have come from album collaborator Diplo - who says that, despite the new changes, his album will still have a West Coast vibe to it.

Despite donning a gangsta rapper persona for the past 20 years, Snoop has seen the light and has been born-again, and he’ll now be singing reggae rather than spitting verses under his new name Snoop Lion. Jumping from world-beating hip-hop to reggae is always gonna leave a few fans miffed and pissed, but Snoop’s been having tremendous amounts of support from across the globe - and even Diplo, who produced Snoop’s forthcoming new record, is in awe at the new man.

“If you haven't seen Snoop recently, he's gone totally Rasta,” Diplo told MTV. “He has Bob Marley and Haile Selassie pins — he's mad Rasta. It's gonna surprise people, but it's an amazing record. We have some almost rap stuff on the record, but there's also a lot of singing, because he sings really well and there's a lot of backing vocals. He was really studying Bob Marley. He likes to have the female backing vocals, and it's a real Marley-esque vibe. We [also] have some West Coast attitude with the production, and I'm really excited about it. It sounds amazing."
