Mumford & Sons Portsmouth Guildhall Concert Affected By Dozens of Fake Tickets

Mumford and Sons fans in Portsmouth were left devastated last night, after being turned away from the band’s gig in the city when it emerged that fake tickets for the concert were in circulation.

Around 100 people were refused entry to the show at the Portsmouth Guildhall, despite some forking out up to £200 for a pair of tickets to the gig. Some of those that were turned away had purchased their tickets through secondary exchange site Viagogo, and police are now working with the site to determine how the illegitimate tickets made it into their system with the safeguards in place.

In the meantime, the site are offering the fans who missed out, tickets to a future Mumford & Sons gig or a voucher worth an amount equal to the original price they paid for their tickets. Paula Wynne, one of those who paid £200 for her tickets, told The BBC: “It is absolutely brilliant that we can get our money back. It will be unbelievable to salvage the chance to see these guys, we are going to jump, scream and sing.”

A statement on Mumford and Son’s website shows the band’s response to the fake tickets, and reads: “We sincerely hope that not too many of you good honest Mumford & Sons fans have been affected.”

Viagogo's UK director Ed Parkinson said, "We have to make a decision whether the seller was acting maliciously and can suspend and delete accounts". Sellers on Viagogo do not get paid until after the event takes place, and Parkinson confirmed that fans would now be fully refunded with the escrow funds or offered tickets to an alternative Mumford and Sons concert on their upcoming tour.

Stereoboard only sells tickets through safe, guaranteed and trusted agencies and ticket sellers - to ensure you don’t end up not just missing the gig but also out of pocket in the process. Check our page on ticket scams here. to find out more.
