Rick Ross Dropped By Reebok Following Drug/Date Rape Lyric

American rapper Rick Ross has lost out on a big buck deal with sport clothing company Reebok, after they dropped him - because of a lyric about date-rape in his latest track ‘U.O.E.N.O’.

The controversial hip-hop star turned heads when he rapped the lyric ‘Put Molly [MDMA, the active ingredient in Ecstasy] all up in her champagne, she ain't even know it/I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain't even know it’.

Ross has since apologised for the track - but only to say that he’s sorry that people interpreted it as a reference to drug-fuelled date rape, and not for the actual offensive nature of the lyrics. The track has been hounded by feminist groups, who are calling for it to be banned - and now Reebok have expressed their displeasure with the track, too.

A statement from Reebok reads: “While we do not believe that Rick Ross condones sexual assault, we are very disappointed he has yet to display an understanding of the seriousness of this issue or an appropriate level of remorse. At this time, it is in everyone's best interest for Reebok to end its partnership with Mr Ross.”

UltraViolet - a feminist group that protested outside of a Reebok store in Manhattan - have released their own statement, praising the company for dropping Ross.

They wrote: “We are thrilled to hear that Reebok is joining the fight against rape culture and dropping Rick Ross. This sends a strong message that rapping about drugging and raping an unconscious woman is not only morally wrong, but has real consequences.”
