Firewheelbombfire Release Debut Album Tomorrow

Tuesday, 30 April 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Firewheelbombfire - the new experimental rock project from the experienced Matthew Strangis - is set to release it’s debut album tomorrow, via Cen:sore Recordings.

‘Square Peg in a Square Hole’ is the first ever album offering from Strangis’ freshest alias firewheelbombfire, a solo project which sees him taking yet another different musical direction. Previously known for his drum and bass productions and his appearances in guitar-based bands, the Cardiffian produced the album on a budget of zero, and was entirely, 100% DIY.

Strangis wrote the entire album and recorded at home in just under two months, around his 9-5 job - highlighting the creative capabilities and drive of the musician. Making minimal use of samples, it instead relies on homemade kit (eg cymbals/snares/percussion/guitar), borrowed instruments (piano/stylophone) and other noise-enabling bits and pieces found around his home (kitchen utensils/plates/cats).

When we say experimental rock, we mean it - there’s more influences and styles than you can shake a stick at; this eclectic album harnesses elements of metal, stoner/shoegaze, electronic music, trip-hop, and everything inbetween.

Producing drum & bass under the moniker ‘Billy Gone Bad’, he’s received airplay from Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1), Tom Robinson (BBC6), Adam Walton (BBC Radio Wales), Bethan Elfyn (BBC Radio Wales) and Annie Nightingale (BBC Radio 1), and has DJ-ed on bills featuring some of the most respected names in drum & bass - such as Dillinja, Black Sun Empire, Dub Phizix, and S.P.Y.

You can check out the video for the track ‘Doggone’ below - you can pre-order the album here.
