Dave Lombardo Pays Tribute To Late Bandmate Jeff Hanneman

Thursday, 09 May 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo has paid tribute to his late bandmate Jeff Hanneman, who tragically passed away on May 2nd last week.

Lombardo is actually currently separated from the band, following a dispute over payment on the band’s recent tour of Australia, but has performed with Slayer - and Hanneman - since as far back as 1981, and has been left devastated by the loss of his mate and fellow bandmember.

Posting via Facebook, he released an old photo - which you can see on the below right - of the pair, and wrote this statement:

“This picture was taken at the Troubadour in Hollywood around 1982. Jeff was the guy that shaved his head and shared the music he was so inspired by. I enjoyed Dead Kennedy's, Circle Jerks, Black Flag and the Germs with him. My drumming was getting faster and Jeff was writing original songs with a Punk attitude. The fusion of Heavy Metal and Punk took over Slayers early mediocre style, hence a new force was born. Thank you Jeff for your inspiring discovery of Punk rock that has continued to shape my personal drumming style.”

Earlier this month, we reported that the sickos which are the Westboro Baptist Church may be plotting to picket the funeral of Jeff Hanneman - you can read about that story here. Hanneman died age 49 following a liver failure, which many are attributing to a spider bite he he suffered in 2011, which saw him constantly in and out of hospital.
