Paul McCartney Swaps Beatles For Grasshoppers At Gig In Brazil

Thursday, 09 May 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Sir Paul McCartney is used to performing alongside insects - if you count his time in The Beatles. But, he couldn’t have prepared himself for the scenes at a recent gig in Brazil - as he was attacked by a swarm of grasshoppers mid set!

Playing live to a crowd of over 47,000 people at the Serra Dourada Stadium in Goiania, McCartney ripped through a set full of crowd favourites, such as ‘Live and Let Die’ and ‘Yesterday’. You can find a full set list below.

But, during his performance of ‘Hey Jude’, he was swarmed - not by fans, but by countless ‘Esperanca Grilo’ grasshoppers, who evidently couldn’t contain their emotion at seeing the most famous Beatle in the world live on stage.

Taking it with a cool head, McCartney continued to play, and even let one of the lucky grasshoppers sit on his shoulder for the remainder of the gig, like some kind of tiny, creepy-crawly parrot.

McCartney was performing as part of his ‘Out There!’ tour, which now takes him to the US, before heading to Poland, Italy, Austria, and then Canada, before heading back to the States. Unfortunately, there’s no UK dates, but if you’re in any of those countries in the coming months. check the links below to find tickets through Stereoboard.
