Bassist Eric Avery Announces He Is Leaving NIN - Just Months After Joining

Thursday, 16 May 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Eric Avery has announced that he is officially leaving the band, despite not yet performing with them.

Avery joined the band earlier this year, something we covered in this story detailing the band’s return with a brand new line-up - which also features Adrian Belew of King Crimson, Telefon Tel Aviv’s Josh Eustis, former Lostprophets drummer Ilan Rubin, and former member Alessandro Cortini alongside frontman Trent Reznor.

But, despite joining the band just months ago as a touring member, and having never actually toured with them, Avery has announced that he’s leaving - as he’s spent a long time touring with Garbage, and can’t commit to another year and a half of live shows alongside such an ‘intense’ band like Nine Inch Nails.

He broke the news via his Facebook page, writing:

“It's with very mixed emotions I tell you all that I'm pulling out of NIN. I know. Its been a tough call and I don't know if it's the right one. But I really want to focus on my musical life here in LA, on film work in particular. As the tour dates kept growing… I just got overwhelmed. I just got home from a year of heavy travel with Garbage, the idea of leaving town for another year and a half, and with all the intensity that Nails demands… fortunately my friend Trent understands all this and appreciated my pulling the plug now instead of deep into 2013 and 14. Go get 'em gentlemen.”

The news comes ahead of the band’s busy summer festival circuit, which seems them performing at Reading and Leeds Festival among others. The band have also announced that they’ll be touring this year, though they’ll have to find a new bassist. Keep your eyes peeled on Stereoboard for updates on the band - we’ll let you know if they decide to hit the UK!
