Original Doors Members Robby Krieger And John Densmore To Reunite For Live Tribute To Ray Manzarek

Thursday, 04 July 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

The Doors guitarist Robby Krieger has revealed that he’ll reunite with John Densmore - the only other surviving member of The Doors - to perform a live tribute to late keyboard player Ray Manzarek.

Manzarek became the second member of the band to pass away (Jim Morrison died in 1971), having succumbed to a lengthy battle with bile duct cancer in May, aged 74. To mark his death, his bandmates Krieger and Densmore will be getting together to perform ‘at least one show’ as a tribute - and there may even be a tour in the pipeline.

Krieger told Rolling Stone:

“We're going to do at least one show for Ray and have a big send-off. That's either the start or the end of it, I don't know.”

It may come as surprising news for some fans, as Krieger and Manzarek haven’t been the best of friends recently - in fact, the dust seems to have only just settled after their multi-million dollar lawsuit battle, which saw Densmore suing Krieger and Manzarek for their decision to tour using the name ‘The Doors of the 21st Century’ in 2002. This was met with a counter lawsuit against Densmore, and led to many believing that they’d never reunite again.

Speaking of the lawsuits - which are covered in Densmore’s new book ‘The Doors: Unhinged’ - Krieger commented:

“That's what you do – if someone sues you, you sue them twice as hard back and hope that they drop the suit," Krieger said. "It was a very stupid idea. We had the worst lawyers.

“[Densmore is] the one that got me in the Doors. What am I going to do? I can't hate him forever. I just wish he had wanted to play with Ray and I back before all this started. That's when things went bad. We're talking about it.”
