Grunge icons Pearl Jam recently unveiled their new track Mind Your Manners, the first track from their forthcoming 10th studio album 'Lightning Bolt'. Check out what band guitarist Mike McCready had to say about the track's hard-edged riff, below.
Explaining the inspiration behind the riff, McCready revealed: "It's my attempt to try to make a really hard edge-type Dead Kennedys-sounding song. I wanted that kind of aggression and that kind of feel in that song, so I came up with the lyrics 'Mind Your Manners'. Jeff (Ament) brought in a lot of his real punk rock kind of bass ideas of starting and stopping… the kind of school he comes from is that; I came from more of the metal thing but always wanted to dive into the punk side."
Mind Your Manners was released on July 11 as a digital download. 'Lightning Bolt' is the anticipated follow-up to 2009's 'Backspacer' and sees the band once again working alongside producer Brendan O'Brien, who previously helmed Pearl Jam records 'Vs' and 'Vitalogy'. The album' is set for a US release on October 15, with the rest of the world able to grab the album a day earlier on October 14.
Pearl Jam will hit the road for a massive North American tour later this year. Check out pearljam.com for a full schedule. As yet, no European or UK dates have been announced.
