Scott Weiland: No Hard Feelings With STP Replacement Chester Bennington

Friday, 02 August 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland has claimed that there are no hard feelings between him and his replacement, Chester Bennington.

Speaking after what can only be described as a bit of a messy break-up, Weiland has told Billboard that he and Bennington are friends, and that he doesn’t think he acted out of spite in stepping into his shoes.

“I've known Chester for a long time. I got to be pretty close with him on the Family Values Tour [in 2001]. I don't think Chester did it in a spiteful way.”

Weiland and his former bandmates are currently embroiled in a lawsuit over his departure, while he is also putting together his third solo record in the midst of a tour with the Wildabouts.

“The brothers DeLeo can be pretty persuasive... I guess nothing is totally shocking, but... I don't think it was smart for them to do that. I'm surprised they did what they did without checking the legality of it, how they just decided to go and use the name and go and hire another singer and start playing shows with a name that I still am an owner of.”
