Stone Temple Pilots is an American rock band hailing from San Diego, California. Formed in 1985, the band currently consists of brother duo Dean and Robert DeLeo, who play guitar and bass respectively, alongside fellow founding member and drummer Eric Kretz. They have recently been joined by X Factor runner-up Jeff Gutt, who steps into the shoes of late singers Chester Bennington and Scott Weiland.
With Scott Weiland, the original vocalist, causing problems in the band on not one but two occasions, it looked like his 2013 departure would signal the end of 28 successful years, which saw them release a series of multi-platinum albums (including their 1994 #1 record 'Purple'), tour worldwide, and even win a Grammy Award. However, they wasted no time in hiring Bennington and releasing their debut EP, 'High Rise' and touring across the US.
However, Stone Temple Pilots suffered a series of losses over the next few years, that once again may have thrown the band's future into question. Their former vocalist, Scott Weiland, was found dead in 2015, with the band thanking him for his time with them. Then, Bennington announced his decision to leave the band later in the year, to work with Linkin Park more. Tragically, Bennington would be found dead too, two years later.
While the bandmembers have dealt with a traumatic few years as of late, Stone Temple Pilots have picked up the pieces and signed up Jeff Gutt (a two-time X Factor contestant who finished 2nd in 2013) as their new vocalist. Currently working on a new record together, they would release a new single, Meadow, in November 2017. Catch them playing new and old music together on tour of the US in spring 2018.
