'N Sync and Daft Punk Amongst Surprise MTV VMA Appearances

Monday, 26 August 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Iconic American boyband ‘N Sync and French house superstars Daft Punk were amongst the surprise performances at the MTV VMAs over the weekend - though the latter’s appearance wasn’t really such a surprise.

Justin Timberlake joined his bandmates Lance Bass, JC Chasez. Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick for their first public performance since 2004’s Annual Challenge for the Children - so if you were hearing deafeningly loud high-pitched screams on Saturday night, they were to blame.

Unfortunately for One Direction, they weren’t met with the same applause, and received no-where near the amount of screams they’re usually met with - they were booed as they picked-up the Best Song of the Summer award for ‘Best Song Ever’.

Meanwhile, Daft Punk appeared, in a surprise that was ruined by Stephen Colbert earlier this month, after the pair pulled out of his show The Colbert Report last-minute - he blamed their ‘surprise appearance’ at the MTV VMAs as the cause.

They only appeared as presenters though, not joining the likes of pop rivals Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, Kanye West, and Macklemore as performers. But, it was Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Kendrick Lamar, and 2Chainz who stole the headlines - but not for good reasons.

The young Disney star has been condemned by fans and critics alike for her raunchy and shocking display, which saw her donning a skin colour barely-there outfit. Twitter has filled up with tweets of disapproval - check some out below, along with the video.
