Boy George Announces Plan For First Proper Album in 18 Years

Thursday, 29 August 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Multi-talented glam icon Boy George has announced plans to release his first full, proper album for 18 years.

The singer-songwriter has set an October 28 release date for ‘This Is What I Do’, his latest collection of music that features 12 new original tracks - and in his own words, he’s created a 70s inspired ‘baggy album’.

Out via his own Very Me label, its his first full and proper collection of new music via a real label for almost 20 years - he has been putting out LPs, but they’ve been dance music mixes, compilations of previously unheard tracks, or independently release projects.

“I wanted to make a baggy album, not overproduced and I think I have achieved it. I was listening to things like 'Beast Of Burden' by The Stones, and I had my head most definitely in the '70s. [Long-time writing partner Richie Stevens's] approach was very organic and he's the best drummer in the country so the feel of the record was so locked in from the start.

“I was also writing from a happy place. This time, no ex-lovers to get revenge on. For me 'Bigger Than War' sums up the tone.”

You can check out the tracklisting below - the album sees him collaborating with the likes of DJ Yoda, Kitty Durham, and more, and precedes his UK tour in November. Need Boy George tickets? Check the dates and links underneath the tracklisting to find a pair through Stereoboard.
