MGMT have unveiled a rather trippy trailer video for their upcoming self-titled album.
'MGMT', the third album from Benjamin Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden, hits shelves on September 16. Supposedly a rather wacky and bizarre collection of songs (one reviewer described it as ‘beyond weird, but in the best, most deliciously mind-bending of ways’), the band have teased fans with an equally crazy preview which you can check out below.
Six minutes long, the preview features short clips of tracks on the record, such as new singles Cool Song No 2 and Your Life is a Lie - while the video sees some extraterrestrial life forms spying on MGMT as they rehearse the songs.
Aliens may be listening to the album but one person who surprisingly won’t be is VanWyngarden, who told Rolling Stone this week:
“I don’t even know if it’s music we would want to listen to. It’s just what’s coming out of us. We didn’t make a single compromise. Weird things would happen to me up there [at producer Dave Fridmann’s Tarbox Road Studios]. I had total mental breakdowns sometimes.”
