The NFL is reportedly suing MIA for her middle-finger gesture at the 2012 Super Bowl.
The rapper appeared alongside superstars Madonna and Nicki Minaj at the Super Bowl XLVI to perform their single Give Me All Your Luvin', during which she decided to flip the bird and mouth: "I don't give a shit."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the NFL claims that the finger-flip was "in flagrant disregard for the values that form the cornerstone of the NFL brand and the Super Bowl." They're after $1.5 million in compensation.
MIA’s legal representative, Howard King, told THP this about her next move:
“She is going to go public with an explanation of how ridiculous it was for the NFL and its fans to devote such furor to this incident, while ignoring the genocide occurring in her home country and several other countries, topics she frequently speaks to.
“Of course, the NFL's claimed reputation for wholesomeness is hilarious, in light of the weekly felonies committed by its stars, the bounties placed by coaches on opposing players, the homophobic and racist comments uttered by its players, the complete disregard for the health of players and the premature deaths that have resulted from same, and the raping of public entities ready to sacrifice public funds to attract teams.”
The NFL didn’t have as much to say themselves, only adding that "any monetary damages for her actions would have been donated to charity." Is MIA guilty and deserving of the hefty fine, or are the NFL overreacting? Leave us a comment in the box below!
