Metallica To Start Working On New Album In Spring 2014

Wednesday, 09 October 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Thrash metal titans Metallica will hit the studio to record their next album in March 2014.

The legendary Los Angeles band have just got through the release of their massive 3D concert-film and feature-length epic 'Metallica: Through the Never', but frontman James Hetfield has revealed that they’re already looking to the future - and a new album isn’t TOO far off the horizon.

In fact, it seems like it could very well hit our ears next year - as long as they manage to ‘sift through’ the tons of material and riffs they have locked up in the studio!

Hetfield told the Oakland Press:

“Hopefully [we will return to the studio] soon. I’m itchin’. We have tons of material to sift through. That takes a lot of time, because there’s a lot of great stuff. I know we only need a few songs, but there’s 800 riffs we’re going through. It’s kind of insane. We have sifted through a lot of the stuff and pulled the cream of the crop - it’s just sitting there waiting for us to take it to the next level.

“I know we do need to decompress after this, get this film thing out of our systems. It’s taken up a lot of time and a lot of effort. We go full-throttle into something and multitasking is not what we’re after. So the next record will hopefully start some time in the spring.”

Meanwhile, it was revealed last week that the band would making a massive announcement this week - though we doubt this talk of their next album is it, some new material could feature. But, we think it may have something to do with a new tour, which may even involve the production for the Through the Never film!

You’ll have to wait and see what happens, but for now, check out our story here!
