Johnny Marr will release his second solo record, ‘Playland’, on October 6.
Recorded at London’s Tritone Studios with regular collaborator Doviak, the follow up to ‘The Messenger’ finds Marr delving into city life.
In an interview with the NME, the former Smiths guitarist said:
"It was deliberate to work in London. Where you work definitely affects how it sounds and seeps into the music, and I've developed a really good feeling for London in the past couple of years, I like the frenetic atmosphere.
"The album's main themes are the atmosphere of the city, and the preoccupations of the people who live in them; those preoccupations being consumerism, sex and anxiety, or distraction and transcendence from those things.”
Marr will hit the road for a string of headline shows this autumn, including at stop at the O2 Academy Brixton and a homecoming show at the O2 Apollo in Manchester.
