Yung Lean Shares 'Stranger' Short Film

Thursday, 09 November 2017 Written by Laura Johnson

Yung Lean has shared a short film.

The video is a companion piece to his new album, 'Stranger', which is due to arrive tomorrow through YEAR0001. Discussing it, directors Suzie and Leo said:

"The film is a western but the main inspiration came from Takeshi Kitano’s movies, especially Sonatine. It's is a big reference for me and also for Lean so I think that it was the starting point of this collaboration.

This project was quite particular, because the idea was to create a teaser for Lean’s new album, so I tried to find what kind of mood could fit. The idea of a western came naturally. In a western, you don't need dialogues, you can play with all the archetypes and make something credible without showing too much. I was also inspired by greek mythology because it has true violence in it and even though it is often suppressed or held back, there is a bit of violence in everyone.

In the end, the mood is definitely a western but I think that the film is actually closer to a satirical comedy. There is this kid who is trying to create a connection with this "demon" without any preconceptions.

This is my third project with Yung Lean and I think that it's the most accomplished. It has always been super easy to work with him because he is the most honest artist I know and a true friend."

The Swedish rapper and producer will follow up the new record with an in-store performance at Rough Trade East on November 15. Following that he will return to the UK next month as part of this European tour.

Yung Lean Upcoming Tour Dates are as follows

Tue December 12 2017 - LONDON Roundhouse
Wed December 13 2017 - MANCHESTER Academy 2
