The singer and actor, who earlier this year announced that he had dementia and would be retiring from performing, was admitted to hospital last week due to multiple organ failure. A statement was posted to his official Facebook page:
David Cassidy 12/04/1950 - 21/11/2017
It is with great sadness that I post this message.
David Cassidy has meant so much to so many people.
David was an iconic teen idol in the 70's and he maintained a career spanning movies, theatre, music, writing, directing. His multi-generational connection to so many people from all walks of life, from all around the world will be felt today.
Despite being a star, he was kind hearted, thoughtful and considerate of others and a friend.
He will be greatly missed.
Cassidy rose to fame with his role in the 1970s musical television show The Partridge Family. He later embarked on a solo career and became a teen pop idol. He recorded 12 studio albums.
Since the news of his death members of the music community, including Brian Wilson, Maureen McCormick and Rick Springfield, have paid tribute online.
I’m very sad to hear about David Cassidy. There were times in the mid-1970s when he would come over to my house and we even started writing a song together. He was a very talented and nice person. Love & Mercy to David and his family.
So very sad to hear of David Cassidy passing away💔 He was always so kind and sweet to me. Our shows were both on Friday nights and deep down I dreamt of being a Partridge. His memory and love will live on in my ❤️forever. Love you David. Prayers to his family🙏🏼
