Pete Doherty's Babyshambles Dropped By Record Label

Sunday, 21 May 2006 Written by Stereoboard.com
ImageBabyshambles have reportedly been dropped by their record label Rough Trade due to the outrageous behaviour of Pete Doherty, although a spokesperson for the label has denied this mornings reports.

The infamous label, that brought us the likes of The Smiths and The Strokes, had released the Babyshambles' debut album 'Down in Albion' last year.

A string of incidents by troubled rock star Pete Doherty is reportedly to blame for the split. Last week the singer squirted a syringe of his own blood at a MTV camera crew, and had reportedly injected heroine in front of the production staff.

This now appears to  have been the final straw for Rough Trade, an industry insider told the Sunday Mirror, "That was the last straw for Rough Trade. They couldn't put up with that sort of behaviour any longer."

"There's only so much they could take... and Pete's gone way beyond that. Rough Trade backed Pete as much as they could. But whatever their fondness for him as a person, it's a business as well, and he had become a liability."

However a spokesperson for Rough Trade has denied that the band had been dropped. She told BBC 6Music that the record deal had come to a natural end, and added that the door was open to renegotiate terms on a new record contract.

Babyshambles are currently without a record deal, manager or even a press officer.
