Cardiff's Sŵn Festival To Return In October Under New Leadership

Monday, 11 June 2018 Written by Huw Baines

Sŵn festival will return this autumn, with new faces behind the wheel.

The 12th edition of the multi-venue Cardiff event will be headed up by the team behind the city’s Clwb Ifor Bach venue, with founders Huw Stephens and John Rostron handing over the reins.

“When we established Sŵn we always envisaged that at some point we would hand it over to the music community and step away, and we now have the right opportunity to do this,” Rostron said.

“It’s thrilling and exhilarating to step away yet know that Sŵn will continue to develop in new hands. Without doubt it will be weird to go and not have any work to do, but I’m looking forward to being free to see as many bands as humanly possible that week."

The fest will run between October 17 and 20, while the first line up announcement is topped by Gwenno (pictured), Boy Azooga, Drenge and the Go! Team.

They’re joined on the poster by Bo Ningen, Dream Wife, the Blinders, Great News, Cosmo Sheldrake, Suuns, Argrph, Breichiau Hir, Buzzard, Cassia, Cowtown, Fling, Giant Party, Goat Girl, Heavy Rapids, I See Rivers, Keir, Los Blancos, Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard, Martha, Marged, Mellt, Teddy Hunter, Viva la Void and Wasuremono.

The venues set to host shows include Tramshed, the Great Hall, Clwb Ifor Bach, Undertone, Kongs, Buffalo and the Big Top. Tickets are on sale at 9am on June 15.
