Crossfaith Announce New Album 'EX_MACHINA'

Thursday, 14 June 2018 Written by Jon Stickler

Crossfaith have announced their new album, 'EX_MACHINA', set for release on August 3 via UNFD.

The Japanese metallers' fifth album and the follow up to 2015’s 'XENO' is a concept album set in an alternative near future in which the ruling class, known as Angels, maintain their world through artificial intelligence and other technology, which dehumanises people and effectively turns them into drones. Discussing the album, frontman Kenta 'Ken' Koie said:

"After we released last album 'XENO', we were thinking about what the next theme for us is. Then we decided to put theme “Awake the individuality”. Because we've always trying to make new things and that's the big part of band's attitudes.

"Technology has been advancing from when I was kid, and it definitely helps the world but at the same time I feel like technology take out important process to think about individuality in exchange for convenience.

"This album is a grave warning for our future, I hope you guys listen to this and think about what the meaning of this album is for you and feel how you feel through this album and start something for your future."

The album will also feature guest contributions from Enter Shikari frontman Rou Reynolds as well industrial hip hop duo Ho99o9. Last week, Crossfaith shared their new single The Perfect Nightmare. View the record's cover art and tracklist below.

'It's Like It Was When Korn Started': Jonathan Davis Strikes Out On His Own With 'Black Labyrinth'

Photo: J Weiner Photography “Boom na da noom na na nema, da boom na da noom na namena.” Twenty years ago, Jonathan Davis’s vocal breakdown in Freak on a Leash made perfect sense. Nu metal had almost reached its commercial peak and Korn were shitting out hits, blowing up cars in their music videos and always staying ahead of their imitators – so brashly that their 1998 album was named ‘Follow The Leader’.
TesseracT - Sonder (Album Review)
Fri 11 May 2018
TesseracT’s first three albums earned them, in vocalist Dan Tompkins’ own words, “three different fanbases”. If you can stomach scrolling through online opinions, you’ll find this to be true. Fans adore their forays into djent, brooding soudscapes, unfathomable prog wizardry, and their mix of clean and screamed vocals, to varying degrees.
At The Gates - To Drink From The Night Itself (Album Review)
Thu 24 May 2018
At The Gates have had a rough old time of things. Splitting up in 1996, a year after releasing their melodic death metal masterpiece ‘Slaughter Of The Soul’, the Swedes endured a lot of to-ing and fro-ing, reunion shows and cryptic teases before releasing ‘At War With Reality’ four years ago.

Gurn. Swear at the audience. Tell them to do a circle pit. This heavy metal stuff is a serious business. But ‘Legion: XX’ is not serious. Here, Virginian metal masterminds Lamb Of God have temporarily reverted to their original moniker, Burn The Priest, in order to have a shitload of fun covering their favourite bands.
Jonathan Davis - Black Labyrinth (Album Review)
Mon 04 Jun 2018
Photo: J Weiner Photography Poor AC/DC. Poor Motörhead. Poor…Jason Statham. It’s easy to get typecast. Jonathan Davis has fought against that sort of pigeonholing during the latter half of his career, refusing to be known solely as the frontman of nu-metal legends Korn.
Ihsahn - Ŕmr (Album Review)

Ihsahn is a genius. It’s a big, divisive word, but he’s proven it time and time again. From his contribution to, and eventual commandeering of, Norwegian black metal’s most important band, Emperor, right through his six solo albums since 2006, he’s found ways to innovate with every string, every key of each instrument he has picked up.
