You Should Definitely Catch Spanish Love Songs And Ducking Punches On Their UK Tour

Spanish Love Songs’ Twitter bio says: "Favorite band of that one guy you went to high school with who still listens to pop-punk, but has also been divorced."
Now, I’m not divorced, but my knees hurt and I seem to be continually confronted by stuff that’s older than I think it is (yesterday it was Deadwood. Deadwood finished in 2006, when I was 21. I still believe that swearing cowboys are cool, but my default facial expression is also despair).
Spanish Love Songs, then, are extremely my jam. If you’ve ever yelled yourself hoarse at a Menzingers show, they might be yours too. Nuevo, the first song on their recent LP, ‘Schmaltz’, is a Wonder Years-style intro to their world that features nods to Pabst Blue Ribbon, teenage hardcore shows and the line, “Well, fuck, I’m miserable, which means it’s me that hasn’t changed.”
Yes? Yes. From there on in it’s all octave riffs, yell-along choruses and a triumphant sense of we’re-all-in-it-together misanthropy. Have a quick spin of Bellyache below and tell me you don’t want to throw your fist in the air and sing until your voice goes all broken and weird.
The quintet - vocalist and guitarist Dylan Slocum, guitarist Kyle McAulay, bassist Gabe Mayeshiro, drummer Ruben Duarte and Meredith Van Woert on keys - will head over to the UK for the first time towards the end of November and into December, which is nice.
Joining like-minded Norwich punks Ducking Punches (whose new LP ‘Alamort’ is out now) on the road, they’ve lined up stops in London, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Leeds, Nottingham, Milton Keynes and Norwich. Dates are below, along with the music.
