Sleaford Mods Introduce Self-Titled New EP With Lead Track Stick In A Five And Go

Tuesday, 31 July 2018 Written by Laura Johnson

Sleaford Mods will release a new EP this autumn.

The self-titled record marks the Nottingham duo's first new offering since the arrival of 'English Tapas' in March 2017, which picked up four out of five stars from us. It's out through Rough Trade Records on September 14.

Jason Williamson and Andrew Fearn recorded the five track EP in their home city. Williamson said:

“The lead tracks are mostly full of violent tendencies that only transpire through imagination. People are powerless under the political monster and the intense anger and frustration morphs into illusions of attacking each other through the bravado of social media, depression and paranoia.”

The pair will follow up the new release with two nights at London's Roundhouse on September 21 and 22 and their biggest hometown show to date at the Royal Concert Hall on September 30. They will also play Aberdeen and Glasgow in October.

Head below to check out the record's lead track, Stick In A Five And Go, which is textbook Sleaford Mods, with frustrated words hurled over bass and a drum machine.

Sleaford Mods Upcoming Tour Dates are as follows

Fri September 21 2018 - LONDON Roundhouse
Sat September 22 2018 - LONDON Roundhouse
Sun September 30 2018 - NOTTINGHAM Royal Concert Hall Notts
Fri October 26 2018 - ABERDEEN Garage
Sat October 27 2018 - GLASGOW Barrowland

td#right {display:none !important;} Illustration: Samuel Davies There’s this great indie-rock song going around called Hope You Like Getting Old. It’s by the Seattle band Subways on the Sun and its video is full of stuff that used to clutter my shelves when I was a kid - a VHS copy of The Empire Strikes Back, an Optimus Prime figure, a lava lamp like the one my girlfriend got me for my 17th birthday. Watching it is to submit to that addictive, rose-tinted sadness that’s so hot right now. It’s Proust with power chords.

After all, why should we be impressed by the execution of dog-eared blueprints?
Deaf Havana - Rituals (Album Review)
Mon 20 Aug 2018
The intro to Deaf Havana’s ‘Rituals’ is a short ambient piece called Wake but, in truth, they might well have kicked things off with John Williams’ ominous theme music from the film Jaws. Having turned their back on everything that made them one of Britain’s finest young bands, the five piece have totally and utterly jumped the shark here.
