Cursive To Return With New Album 'Vitriola' In October

Wednesday, 08 August 2018 Written by Laura Johnson

Cursive will return with their first album in six years this autumn.

'Vitriola', the follow up to 2012's 'I Am Gemini', is due on October 5 through 15 Passenger, their own label. Speaking with NPR, who announced news of the LP, lead vocalist and guitarist Tim Kasher said:

"I was really wanting to go back to that raw emotional feeling that I used to get, how I wrote the first couple Cursive records when I was a younger man. I would suggest that that was a little bit easier this time, with so much avarice and bile that we were all experiencing. [It] felt natural for me to just go with that."

The rest of the Cursive line up consists of founding drummer Clint Schnase, touring member and cellist Megan Siebe, guitarist Ted Stevens, bassist Matt Maginn and Patrick Newbery on keys.

The first track to be shared from the new record is Life Savings. It's a return to the more rugged sounds of the band's early '00s work, with Kasher injecting a thread of anxiety and desperation inspired by the current political and economic climate. "Money buys a bright future, but we will be forever indentured," he sings.

The band will follow up the record's release with a North American tour. Check below for dates. Tickets go on sale at 10am local time on August 10.

In 2015, Twenty One Pilots got their big break. The Ohioans’ fourth album, ‘Blurryface’, summited the US chart and sent two singles into similarly rarefied air. The following year another song, Heathens, ushered in the soundtrack to the hit film, Suicide Squad. The resulting period has seen the band ascend to arena-filling stardom and paved the way for ‘Trench’, a record that combines their distinctive blend of elaborate production with re-upped nu-metal.
