Paul Simon Shares Reworked One Man's Ceiling is Another Man's Floor

Thursday, 09 August 2018 Written by Huw Baines

Paul Simon has shared a reworked version of One Man’s Ceiling is Another Man’s Floor from his new LP ‘In The Blue Light’.

The track, which featured on 1973’s ‘There Goes Rhymin’ Simon’, hasn’t been entirely made over but its new set of clothes give it a smoky, bar-room feel missing from the original take.

‘In The Blue Light’ is out on September 7. “This album consists of songs that I thought were almost right, or were odd enough to be overlooked the first time around,” Simon said in a statement.

“Re-doing arrangements, harmonic structures, and lyrics that didn’t make their meaning clear, gave me time to clarify in my own head what I wanted to say, or realize what I was thinking and make it more easily understood.”

Simon’s Homeward Bound farewell tour will wind down in September, with his last show set to take place at Flushing Meadows' Corona Park in New York.

While Paul Simon may not be as prolific as Bob Dylan (38 solo albums) or Van Morrison (39), he might beat both artists in terms of consistent quality. Records like ‘Rhythm of the Saints’, released in 1990, and 2016’ s ‘Surprise’ often matched the brilliance of his work with Art Garfunkel, but may have been overlooked due to ageism within pop music.

Bruce Springsteen - Western Stars (Album Review)
Tue 18 Jun 2019
There has always been a restlessness to Bruce Springsteen’s music. As he ambled from bar to bar in Asbury Park, it manifested in thousand-words-a-minute flights of fancy. Soon, he was taken by the road and its promise of escape. Driven on by bombast and the communal spirit of his live shows, the real world sometimes felt like it was out of sight around the next bend.
