Paul Simon Shares New Version Of Rene And Georgette Magritte With Their Dog After The War

Paul Simon got the inspiration for Rene and Georgette Magritte With Their Dog After The War in the 1980s, while absent mindedly flipping through books at Joan Baez’s house before a rehearsal. Happening to land on a picture of the surrealist artist and his family, this humble moment inspired a soft, pretty and gentle song.
It first appeared on ‘Hearts and Bones’, an album that was almost released jointly with his former musical partner, Art Garfunkel. On September 7, Simon will release ‘In The Blue Light’, a series of rearrangements and re-recordings of old songs. We’ve already heard the new renditions of One Man’s Ceiling Is Another Man’s Floor and Can’t Run But, and now it’s the turn of the ode to surrealist artist, his wife and dog.
With a lengthier introduction, the new take is more orchestrally focused, with flutes, brass and a rich string section taking over what used to be a simple guitar song. Have a listen to the latest version below, before reminiscing with the original.
Simon recently finished a run of shows in the UK, and heads to the US in September to continue touring.
