Karen O And Danger Mouse Announce Collaborative LP, Share First Single Lux Prima

Friday, 16 November 2018 Written by Laura Johnson

Karen O and Danger Mouse have announced a collaborative album.

According to a press release (via Pitchfork), the Yeah Yeah Yeahs vocalist and producer will put out the LP on limited edition 12" white vinyl on December 14 at "select independent record stores."

In a statement, Karen O said:

“After making music for the past twenty years and embarking on making this record with Danger Mouse I knew a couple things. One was that the spirit of collaboration between us was going to be going to be a pure one, and two was that the more I live the less is clear to me. When you create from a blurry place you can go places further than you’ve ever been. I think we both were excited to go far out.”

Discussing the record's first single, Danger Mouse also commented:

“With ‘Lux Prima,’ we were really looking for a place rather than a sound. It was our first shared destination so we thought we’d take our time getting there. The song itself is a bit of a journey, but all the parts felt like they needed each other.”

The track is extremely atmospheric and throughout its nine minutes feels like a soundtrack taking you through various stages of a story, with rich strings, keys, synths, varying beats, samples and Karen O's engaging vocals. It wouldn't be out of place in an episode of Twin Peaks.

The new single and record follow up another collaboration from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer, Yo! My Saint, on which she joined forces with Michael Kiwanuka.

Danger Mouse's last collaboration, meanwhile, was 2017's Chase Me with Big Boi and Run The Jewels. The track featured on the soundtrack for Edgar Wright’s film Baby Driver. He also produced Parquet Courts' most recent album, 'Wide Awake!'.
