Laura Stevenson has shared a couple of new songs.

After the giddy power-pop rush of her ‘Cocksure’ LP, the New York singer-songwriter has stripped things back for The Mystic & The Master and Maker of Things, two beautiful, rich ballads that recall the understated power of 2013’s ‘Wheel’.

The tracks were written as a birthday gift for Stevenson’s mother, while Bandcamp proceeds will be donated to Safe Horizon, a US victim assistance organisation. “Today is my mom’s birthday,” she wrote on Twitter. “I just wanted to share these songs as a way of showing my appreciation for her and everything she endured while raising me and my sister.”

A new album is also on the way, so keep an eye out for news on that.
