Singer-Songwriter Pegi Young Dies Aged 66

Thursday, 03 January 2019 Written by Jon Stickler

Pegi Young has died aged 66.

In a statement issued to the singer-songwriter's official social media accounts, her family said she passed away on January 1 following "a year-long battle with cancer" and was "surrounded by her friends and family in her native California."

The musician was married to Neil Young for 36 years, 1978 to 2014. The couple had two children together, Ben and Amber. Inspired by Ben, who was born with cerebral palsy, the pair founded the Bridge School, an organization that educates children with severe speech and physical impairments.

As well as being known for her backing singing with Neil, Young had her own solo career and toured with her band the Survivors, occasionally with Neil on guitar. She released three solo albums and most recently put out 'Raw' with the Survivors in 2017.
