Jawbox are going back out on the road this summer.
Billed An Impartial Overview, after a line from their track Chinese Fork Tie, from their 1996 eponymous album, their final release to date, the D.C. post-hardcore band will reunite for a run of 12 club shows, marking their first live dates in more than 20 years.
They remained in contact since their 1997 split and previously discussed the idea of a reunion. During an interview with Rolling Stone, bassist Kim Coletta revealed:
"In the last five years, every year we've been like, should we play shows? And every year, it's easy to put up some impediments to playing shows... It was kind of like, this year made sense finally. And the hardest thing was just saying, 'Yes, let’s try this.' I’m really excited and nervous at the same time."
The band, comprised of Coletta, J. Robbins, Bill Barbot and drummer Zach Barocas, will kick off the run on June 14 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, before heading to major cities in the Northeast, West Coast and Midwest, culminating at Chicago’s Metro on July 27.
The last time they played in public was a one-off performance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon in 2009 to coincide with a reissue of 'For Your Own Special Sweetheart'. According to Robbins, the band decided that if a proper reunion was to happen, it needed to happen now or never:
"If we’re gonna do it, we should do it when we're still physically capable of doing it justice, of the endurance and physical commitment that it takes to play the kind of music we played in Jawbox. If we're gonna do it, let's just fuckin' do it."
Tickets go on sale at 10am on January 18.
