Indie Punks Martha Announce New Album 'Love Keeps Kicking', Share Title Track

Wednesday, 30 January 2019 Written by Helen Payne

Martha have announced a new album.

‘Love Keeps Kicking’ is the indie-punk quartet’s third full-length record, and is due for release on April 5 via Big Scary Monsters, with whom the band signed last year. It follows 2016’s ‘Blisters In The Pit of My Heart’.

Having already released the lead single, Heart Is Healing, Martha have now shared the LP’s title track, a guitar-led, cheerful pop song that wryly discusses a break up.

It comes accompanied by a 1950s movie-style video about an alien invasion. Directors Ben Epstein and David Combs explained:

"We wanted to do an old sci-fi alien invasion pastiche and create a threat that no one can outrun, because as the song implies, at some point or another, we all feel the harsh sting of heartbreak. And what better metaphor is there for the inevitability of a broken heart than the swift kick of a giant disembodied foot? It basically wrote itself."

The band will support 'Love Keeps Kicking' with a run of festival slots and some of their biggest headline shows to date across the UK and Europe this spring.

Martha’s approach to pop music falls somewhere between kitchen sink realism and wild escapism. Over the course of two LPs and a slew of excellent singles the indie-punk quartet, who hail from Pity Me, close to Durham in the northeast of England, have cemented a reputation as a melodically savvy, socially conscious band capable of telling us the truth and then helping us to forget about it.

One of life’s dirtiest tricks is the way it slowly erodes the time we have to do the things we love. In response we have nights spent on either side of a low stage, sweat flying and words being wrenched from hoarse throats. “When we’re on tour and playing shows I’m like: ‘This is me’. And then I quickly get back into normal, boring work,” Martha bassist Naomi Griffin says.
