Craig Finn Shares New Single It's Never Been A Fair Fight Ahead Of UK Tour

Thursday, 03 October 2019 Written by Jon Stickler

Craig Finn has released a new single.

It's Never Been A Fair Fight is out now via Partisan Records, along with an acoustic version of the song as its b-side. It arrives with a live performance video of the track filmed earlier this year at Murmrr Theatre in Brooklyn, New York. Take a look below.

"It's Never Been A Fair Fight is about the extreme difficulty of staying true to the rigid rules of a subculture as you get older," Finn said. "The character in the song revisits an old peer and finds struggle and disappointment in the place he left behind. I've always really loved this song, and people seemed to connect with it on my acoustic tour with Brian Fallon. Excited to be sharing the full band version with the world."

Alongside the new track, the Hold Steady frontman has also announced a free instore performance at London's Rough Trade East on October 18.

The news arrives prior to Finn's headline European tour, which gets underway in Bristol on October 11. The shows will see him accompanied by the Uptown Controllers band, with Laura Stevenson opening all dates.

Photo: Shervin Lainez Back in the day, if you pulled up a chair at the kitchen table with the punk kids and hoodrats who ran riot in Craig Finn’s songs then your elbows had to settle for the gaps between empty beer cans and little bags of powder. To your left and right everyone was tired and wired—perpetual motion, with hearts set on the top but heads sweating rock bottom and the latest killer party. That was the way of things in the bloody, ugly, triumphant tales that defined the early years of the Hold Steady.

Iggy Pop - Free (Album Review)
Thu 12 Sep 2019
Photo: Harmony Korine Iggy Pop is one of America’s greatest living rock artists—a stage performer whose visceral public persona is immediate and undeniable. However, that doesn’t always translate into recognisable hits...or even high quality music. Like his late contemporary Lou Reed, sometimes his songs seem deliberately shoddy so as to disappoint and frustrate his audience.
