Radiohead's Thom Yorke And Jonny Greenwood Debut New Side Project The Smile

Monday, 24 May 2021 Written by Jon Stickler

Radiohead's Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood have debuted their new side project.

The Smile — along with jazz drummer Tom Skinner — were announced as surprise headliners of Glastonbury's Live At Worthy Farm streaming event on May 22.

Slotting into the bill between performances from Jorja Smith and Kano, they performed an eight-song set comprising seven new tunes and a reworked version of Radiohead rarity Skirting On The Surface.

The Smile, who take their name from a Ted Hughes poem, are yet to reveal whether they plan to release a body of work containing the songs they performed.

The five-hour Live At Worthy Farm event concert was arranged after Glastonbury organisers were forced to cancel the world-famous festival for a second consecutive year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The full livestream is available for purchase here. Other acts featured on the bill include Haim, Michael Kiwanuka and Coldplay.
