Sad Anymore follows up his March single Best Day Of My Life, and is accompanied by a video animated by Duncan Gist and directed by Manshen Lo, who also helmed the clip for its predecessor.
The piano-led track doubles as a mantra, with Odell repeating "I don’t wanna be sad anymore" and "Look at all the happy people" throughout. He said:
“Like lots of people, sometimes I go through periods where I struggle to be happy. The feeling of ‘sadness’ presents itself in many different ways. Sometimes it’s beautiful like a sad melody, but sometimes it’s ugly like fingers down a chalkboard. Sometimes it lasts a few minutes or even a few seconds but sometimes it lasts months. Sometimes I can hide it so well that no one can even notice, but sometimes it’s right there in my every look, my every word, and no one can ignore it. I think more often than not though, rather ‘sadly’, it is a lonely experience, and one that is made even more lonely by the ever divided world we live in, and the ever growing demand that social media puts on our lives. To be beautiful, to be successful, to be loved, to be happy. I hope by singing about how I'm not and by being as honest as I can be, some people who feel sad sometimes too, might feel a little less alone.”
Despite the new material, there's still no word from Odell if there's a follow-up to 2021's 'Monsters' on the way.
