Deerhoof have shared two new songs.
Sparrow Sparrow and Overrated Species Anyhow showcase the San Francisco band's experimental indie-rock sound with angular dancey grooves, ethereal orchestral arrangements and floating vocal harmonies.
Both songs are available digitally and on limited-edition 7" vinyl via Joyful Noise Recordings, with all proceeds from sales benefitting The Trevor Project, a non-profit organisation focused on suicide prevention for LGBTQ+ young people. In a statement posted to the band's website, Deerhoof said:
"This ‘Double B-Side’ is meant as a life beam to anyone who has been feeling dehumanized by mainstream society lately. Anyone who didn't find themselves in the rankings of which races, nationalities, genders, or belief systems have equal value. Anyone who sees life on earth as something more than some capitalist death match. Anyone who got thrown under the bus in the past year's race to the bottom. Anyone who isn’t one of 2781 billionaires who’ve taken control of the world. Anyone refusing to lick the fascist boot.
"Every penny from this release goes to The Trevor Project, because in the new world we want to create, we need today's trans youth to grow into tomorrow's trans adults."
Their latest album is 2023's 'Miracle-Level'. In early 2024, they shared the single Almuatin, an outtake from the 2002 LP 'Reveille', which they reissued that March.
Deerhoof will play shows across the UK and Europe this summer, following a run of US dates in May. Tickets are on sale now.
