Rufus Wainwright will commemorate 20 years of his Rufus Does Judy show with a special London show next summer.
The New York-born, Montreal-raised singer-songwriter will celebrate his acclaimed tribute concert to American actress and singer Judy Garland for the final time at the Royal Albert Hall on June 10, 2026, Garland's birthday.
The performance will see Wainwright accompanied by a full orchestra, directed by Stephen Oremus, for a recreation of Garland's infamous 1961 comeback concert, featuring songs Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Almost Like Being In Love, The Man Who Got Away, and more. Tickets go on general sale at 10am on Friday (June 6). Wainwright said:
"Within the Royal Albert Hall I’ve communed, been given strength and ultimately bidden farewell to my most turbulent artistic emotions, fondly feeling them evaporate into that amazing dome. It’s my favorite venue in the world and I can’t wait to “do it again” for the last time. Maybe we'll stay all night!"
Wainwright, who has previously performed at the Royal Albert Hall nine times, first brought his Rufus Does Judy show to London in 2007, when he played two dates at The London Palladium. He also took the show to London's Royal Opera House for two nights in 2011.
He has released 11 studio albums to date, including the Grammy-nominated 'Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall' in 2007, which followed the show's premiere at the iconic venue the year before. He also put out 'Rufus Does Judy at Capital Studios' in 2022.
His most recent studio album is 2023's 'Folkocracy', though this January he released 'Dream Requiem', an orchestral composition based on Lord Byron’s 1816 apocalyptic poem Darkness.
Wainwright recently announced that Magic, the first single from the West End live cast recording of his musical Opening Night will arrive this Friday (June 6).
Ahead of his new London show, Wainwright has UK, European and US concerts in the diary for the remainder of this year and early 2026. Tickets for those dates are on sale.
