Baxter Dury has released a new single, Schadenfreude.
Driven by pulsing Eurodance beats and Dury's spoken-word delivery, the track serves as the third glimpse into his upcoming Paul Epworth-produced studio album, 'Allbarone', following the previously unveiled cuts Return Of The Sharp Heads and the title track.
"I loved making Schadenfreude at Paul Epworth's palatial studio," Dury explained. "As soon as we had the backing track, it remained on loop played through these giant bespoke speakers that looked like Cocaine Daleks. It has this optimistic pulsating French dance feel compromised by this slightly over honest fragile man lyric. Schadenfreude."
Head below to view the accompanying Gareth Bowen-directed video, which mirrors the song's darkly humorous, bittersweet tone.
The follow-up to 2023's 'I Thought I Was Better Than You' will arrive on September 12 via Heavenly Recordings. Dury will support it with a previously announced UK and European tour in the autumn. He'll also play All Together Now festival in Ireland on Friday (August 1). Tickets are on sale now.
