Greg Mendez Announces New Album 'Beauty Land' With Lead Single I Wanna Feel Pretty

Greg Mendez has announced a new album.
The follow-up to his 2023 self-titled breakthrough is called 'Beauty Land' and will arrive on May 29, marking the Philadelphia singer-songwriter's first full-length release for Dead Oceans since signing to the label in 2024. He previously put out the EP 'First Time / Alone' in 2024.
Mostly recorded to tape in Mendez's makeshift home studio in Pennsylvania, the album explores themes of grief, love and addiction. As a preview, he has shared the lead single and opening track, I Wanna Feel Pretty, a gentle, folk-pop song that comes with a 35mm-shot video directed by Rhys Scarabosio. Commenting on the clip, Mendez said:
"I spent most of my childhood in the suburbs, surrounded by the American Dream. Grand and lonely, strip malls and housing developments. Cathedrals of consumerism and reconstituted culture.
"The stores weren’t built for the towns, the towns were built for the stores. No one really belongs. The dream is close enough to smell but as soon as you reach out, your hand passes right through - a hologram of a promise. I hoped this video would feel like that."
Mendez has scheduled a North American tour for the summer, with support from Maria BC at shows between June 10 and July 10, and Scarlet Rae from July 31 and August 25. Tickets go on general sale at 10am local time on Friday (March 6).
