Embrace have shared another track from their upcoming ninth album.
Fuelled by a propulsive beat, the soaring, emotionally-charged Stop serves as the second preview of ’Avalanche’, due out on June 12 via Cooking Vinyl. Vocalist Danny McNamara commented:
"The track ’Stop’ pretty much says it all. It’s the clearest statement of where my head was at when we started this record. I was thinking a lot about scale, the fact that we’re on a rock spinning through space at a million miles an hour, heading into absolute nothing, with almost no control over the big picture. One day everyone and everything we’ve ever known will just be a fine layer of calcium, and there’s nothing we can do to change that. Oddly, I don’t find that depressing. I find it freeing. If none of this is permanent, then the pressure we put on ourselves, to be better, bigger, fixed, sorted, is kind of absurd. That song is a demand, to myself as much as anyone, to stop, look around, and actually live in the moment."
The British indie stalwarts introduced the follow-up to 2022’s ’How To Be A Person Like Other People’ in January alongside the release of its lead single, Road To Nowhere. They’ll build up to the LP’s release with a short out-store tour the week before, calling in Kingston, Oxford, Leicester, Barnsley, Bury and Liverpool, with tickets going on sale at 10am on Friday (March 27).
Later in the year, Embrace will celebrate their 30th anniversary with a previously scheduled UK tour in the autumn. They’ll also mark the milestone with spoken-word shows, with McNamara set to tour the UK from this September to May next year with stories about the band, alongside the release of a new book about their early years. Head here for details on that.
Ahead of the tour, Embrace will headline the Shiiine On Weekender at Butlin’s Skegness this week and the Live At The Piece Hall series in Halifax in June, alongside an appearance at Roseshire Festival in Northamptonshire in August. Tickets are on sale now.
