Kneecap have shared another track ahead of the release of their new album.
Written by the group's Móglaí Bap (real name Naoise Ó Cairealláin) about his struggle to come to terms with his mother's death by suicide, Irish Goodbye features Kae Tempest and marks one of the Irish rap trio's most emotional and stripped back tracks to date.
Ahead of the song's release, Ó Cairealláin took to social media to share a powerful statement, revealing that he wrote the lyrics following his mother's death in 2020:
"‘Irish Goodbye’ is about the mundane things me and my Ma did together. I never realised it was the day to day stuff I would miss when she was gone; going for a walk in the park, her giving out to me or keeping me in line, offering me pieces of advice. It's all the small things that you miss."
An accompanying video for Irish Goodbye will drop on YouTube at 11am tomorrow (April 29). It marks the latest preview of the Dan Carey-produced 'FENIAN', due out through Heavenly Recordings this Friday (May 1), following the previously shared title track, Smugglers & Scholars and Liars Tale.
Kneecap are currently building up to the release of 'FENIAN' with a run of out-store gigs, which continue with a performance in Dundee tonight (April 28). This summer, they'll play their biggest headline show to date at London's Crystal Palace Park on June 27, featuring support from The Mary Wallopers, Fat Dog, Biig Piig, Gurriers and Madra Salach. They'll also play several UK and European festivals, including AVA Festival, All Together Now, Boomtown Fair, and Reading and Leeds. Tickets are on sale now.
