Twin Atlantic have outlined plans for their eighth studio album.

The follow-up to 2024's 'Meltdown' is titled 'Separation From The Animals' and will arrive on October 2, marking the Scottish band's first full-length release through independent label Dance To The Radio.

Shaped by two stories of triumph and perseverance, the album finds frontman Sam McTrusty facing his personal struggles after relocating to Canada and immersing himself in family life, while also marking the band's strongest and most personal record yet following a low point in morale.

Steered by co-producers Ross McNae (bassist) and Barry McKenna (founding lead guitarist), with drummer Craig Kneale returning to record two tracks, Confidant and recent single Don’t Quit It, the album also marks the first time in years that all four founding members have recorded together.

Discussing opening up for the first time about how his life's trauma has influenced many of his songs in different ways, McTrusty explained:

"I’m from a family that’s fairly divided, so I’ve always been passed about from when I was six-months-old. It’s all I’ve ever known. As you grow up, you start to view life through a different lens - especially the whole struggle of going from boy to man. My experience of that is particularly painful, emotional and confusing. But because it seemed normal at the time, it didn’t really hit me until I found my tribe, my people, my band.

"My entire adult life is meant to have been looking ahead but my personal life is always looking back. That baggage is basically what the whole band is about."

Alongside the announcement, the band have released the new melancholic rock track In Your Eyes. McTrusty said: "It's about being at the other end of a relationship where you feel like no matter what you do, nothing is ever good enough. You take a step back and realise that in trying to appease that one person, you’ve blinded yourself to the fact that everything is great. Look outside of that window and life is much better."

Alongside announcing the record, they've scheduled a six-date run of UK shows for October with support from The Xcerts, which will follow their summer dates supporting McFly. Tickets for the new shows go on general sale at 10am on Friday (June 26).

"This is what we’ve always been but with the veil lifted", McTrusty concluded. "I hope people hear the record and it inspires them to do that and be more honest with themselves."
