Paul Heaton has released a new single, Sad Songs and Lawsuits.
The storytelling ska-pop track is the latest preview of his new album, 'Jenius', which is set to arrive on August 21. Introducing it, Heaton said:
“It's obviously tempting to think it's about me, but it genuinely isn't. It doesn't really make that much sense. I know what it's about roughly, though. It's about how so many romances go wrong and end up in either lyrics or lawsuits.
"I risked putting an instrumental chorus in for the very first time, which I thought might sound puny. By the time we built it up, I was glad I’d risked it. The night after writing this, I told Jonny (guitarist and co-writer Jonny Lexus), “That song's going to be really good.”"
The former Beautiful South and Housemartins vocalist previously teased the new record with its first single, Favourite Kind Of Idiot featuring his regular collaborator Rianne Downey, who will join him on his UK arena tour this autumn. Tickets are on sale now.
