The White Stripes Win Court Case Over Royalty Payments

Sunday, 18 June 2006 Written by Stereoboard.com
ImageThe White Stripes have won a court case against former producer Jim Diamond.

The jury took just 20 minutes to come to the verdict after Diamond sued Meg and Jack White over royalties for the bands first two albums.

Diamond believed he had 'helped' to create the unique sound of the White Stripes, and wanted a slice of the pie after the bands worldwide success. He is listed as co-producer on the band’s self-titled first album, released in 1999.. He is also listed as sound mixer on “De Stijl,” released in 2000.

“It’s not just about fun and games,” Diamond said in April. “I understand this is a business.”

A lawyer representing The Whte Stripes responded to the case by saying, “It is a meritless case which will be defended with vigor".

The court found that Diamond had been paid for his work on the albums, at a rate of $35 an hour, and did not merit any further financial gain.

Jack White was thrilled with the verdice, adding: "You never know what's going to happen in a trial."
