Apparently, Blood Red Shoes claim they’re punk. They say they’ve got punk sensibilities but I don’t think that’s enough to actually be punk. Really, they’re more concerned that no-one dubs them ‘indie’. No-one cares, they’re a top… alt. rock band; let them think they’re punk, as long as they’re good. Click Here to buy tickets
The band’s name comes from a Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers musical for which Ginger practices so much that her white shoes fill with blood. Lovely, though snot would have been better. Snot Green Shoes. My punk knowledge is limited but I think that would be “Punk-tastic”. This is a phrase punks would often use to greet each other as they punted down the Thames, accompanied by a polite doffing of their punk straw Boater Hats and the traditional loosing of a stringy lung-oyster across their fellow’s face.
Blood Red Shoes, favourites of both NME and the cool kids (they’re apparently very hip) are politically outspoken in terms of their music and are supporters of musicians against racism and have played at events for several causes in their time. Not sure if that’s punk or not.
