Last year was a busy year for the Stereophonics, having completed and released their new album ‘Keep Calm And Carry On’, the band also set off for a series of huge arena tour dates of the UK. Now, most likely used to playing massive venues, the band has confirmed to play a very special home-coming show in Cardiff later this year on June 5th. Front man Kelly Jones has described the special gig as “the icing on the cake” for the band.

As well as playing a record-breaking 13 previous packed out shows at the Cardiff International Arena the Stereophonics have also performed at the Welsh Capital’s Millennium Stadium and Cardiff Castle, with their most recent gig at the castle in September last year. Incidentally, where Jones first let slip that the band were to “do something special in 2010”.

Tickets for the Cardiff City Stadium open air gig go on sale this Friday (22nd January) and are expected to be snapped immediately. The phonics will headline the gig which will be one of two music concerts that have been planned to take place at the stadium within an unnamed 10-day period between May 1st and June 20th this year. As yet the second concert headline has not been confirmed.

The new stadium only opened in July last year and has been built as the home for Cardiff City Football Club and regional rugby club Cardiff Blues. The stadium is part of the football club’s attempt to gain promotion to the English Premiership. Here’s some trivia for you sports fans – Cardiff City are the only team outside of England to have won the FA Cup.

With the club settling into their new ground, Stereophonics will be the first act to ROCK the Cardiff City Stadium. "We want to make it a day to make Welsh people proud," said frontman Kelly Jones. He continued to describe the band’s trend of being the first through the door, "We will be the first band to play the stadium and we love breaking in venues, even dating back to 1993, being the first band playing the Ivy Bush in Cwmaman!"

Tickets for the Stereophonics show at the Cardiff City Stadium will cost £35.00 and go on sale on Friday 22nd January.
