Edwyn Collins, is a indie pop Scottish singer, songwriter, musician, and producer, from Edinburgh, best known for his song, ‘A Girl Like You’, and as the singer of Orange Juice, as well as a successful solo career.
Collins formed the group Nu-Sonics in 1976, which later became Orange Juice. The band signed to Postcard Records, which he had co-founded. Their song Rip It Up, reached number eight in the UK Singles Chart. The band broke up in 1985, after which he pursued a solo career.
He has released his first solo album, ‘Hope and Despair’ in 1989, which was followed by ‘Hellbent on Compromise’ in 1990. It was his 1994, ‘Gorgeous George’ that produced the song, A Girl Like You, which became a worldwide hit. ‘I'm Not Following You’, was released in 1997, and ‘Doctor Syntax’ came in 2002. His seventh album, ‘Home Again’ was recorded before Collins suffered a two cerebral haemorrhages, which left him neurological issues, but released in 2007. His 2010 album, ‘Losing Sleep’ was his first since his illness, which he followed with 2013’s ‘Understated’.
