Jethro Tull are a British progressive rock band from Luton, led by vocalist, guitar player and flutist, Ian Anderson, alongside current members bassist David Goodier, keyboardist John O’ Hara, guitarist Florian Opahle, drummer Scott Hammond.
Formed in 1967, the band released their debut album, ‘This Was’, in 1967, but it was their second album, ‘Stand Up’, which came out in 1969, that gave the band their fame, reaching #1 in the UK Albums Chart. They also had success with ‘Benefit’, in 1970, ‘Aqualung’, in 1971 and ‘Thick as a Brick’, in 1972. The band’s popularity rose in the USA with albums such as ‘A Passion Play’, in 1973, ‘War Child’, in 1974, and ‘Minstrel in the Gallery’, in 1975, reaching the Top Ten.
In the late 1970s the band changed direction with a trio of folk rock albums, starting with ‘Songs from the Wood’, in 1977. The band continued to experiment with their sound and release album up until their split in 2011.
Jethro Tull have announced a 50th anniversary tour of the UK in April with special guests. They then head across North America. Catch them live by checking out the tour dates and concert ticket information below on Stereoboard.
