The Kinks were an English pop rock outfit hailing from Muswell Hill in London. Formed in 1963 by frontmen brothers Ray and Dave Davies, they’re one of the world’s most influential rock outfits and still impact the music scene to this day.
Part of the first wave of British rock acts that stormed North America in the 60s and 70s, the band - led by the Davies’ for their whole time together - were known for their irresistible brand of blues and folk with pop-orientated rock. Over the years they would release 24 studio albums, but it was their earlier records that earned them their mass appeal, with their eponymous debut and it’s follow-up 'Kinda Kinks’ hitting Top 3 in the UK and Top 10 in the US. Though they've been split up since 1996 and the brothers went their separate ways, The Kinks have been rumoured to be getting back together recently - and in 2014, we’re looking at a very possible return.
