The League of Gentlemen is an English comedy television series that premiered on BBC Two in 1999.
Set in the fictional North Eastern town of Royston Vasey, the series follows the lives of dozens of bizarre townspeople, most of whom are played by three of the show's four writers—Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, and Reece Shearsmith—who, along with Jeremy Dyson, formed the League of Gentlemen comedy troupe in 1995. The series originally aired for three series from 1999 until 2002 followed by a film in 2005 and a handful of live shows.
Awards-wise, over the course of the show's career, the group have celebrated a BAFTA award, a Royal Television Society award, and a Golden Rose of Montreux.
In 2017, it has been announced that a three-part revival mini-series will air in the run up to Christmas in celebration of the group's 20th anniversary.
Additionally, much to the excitement of its fans, the troupe have announced a live show for 2018, where they'll take their iconic characters and lines to arenas across the UK.
